What's the deal with DQ and DW names?

Dragon Quest is the original Japanese name for the Dragon Warrior series. The name was translated, according to Enix, because the name sounded better. Rumors have also speculated it was because of the existing copyright on Dragon Quest by TSR. The most recent news indicates that the 'Dragon Warrior' copyright may soon expire and the name Dragon Quest may be used here in North America. The DQ castle refers to Dragon Quest as 'DQ' and Dragon Warrior as 'DW' for simplicity.

What's the Famicom and Super Famicom?

The FAMIly COMputer is the Japanese equal to the North American Nintendo (8-bit) systems. The Nintendo Famicom is the original NES while the Super Famicom is the Super Nintendo. There are a ton of knock offs you can get and a ton of adapters too, check out EBAY if Interested.

What is the Broadcast Satalite?

The Broadcast Satellite is the equivalent to Sega TV. For a fee games could be played over a network. Simply plug the Broadcast satellite (often referred to as BS, affectionately I'm sure...) cart into the BS adapter and plug the adapter in the Super Famicom (like the super game boy). Dragon Quest I & II remix was the only DQ to be made for the BS and is essentially a demo version of DQI with Small Medals and other minute gimmicks added :)

What is the MSX?

The MSX is an old computer system used primarily by users for games, much like the Commodore 64. Dragon Quest I and II were originally MSX games along with many other Nintendo games. There are many emulators and ROMS for the MSX, but they are in Japanese.

DQ Cameos in other games?

FINAL FANTASY I
On a tombstone in a village there is a message - 'here lies Erdrick R.I.P.' Cute...(For new DQ fans - Erdrick was the name used for Loto in the original NES versions of the game). In Japan the tombstone read Link instead of Erdrick... Hmm....

PALADINS QUEST
There is a room ripped straight out of Dragon Quest IV, in a town there is a priest from DQ IV and a room with DQ IV graphics, he falls over and runs away. What does this mean !? (I'm working on getting a screenshot)

BRAIN LORD
The box says you are the last of the "Dragon Warriors". Hmm...

7TH SAGA
Ever notice the name Saro? Maybe a reference to DQ IV Saro (NecroSaro's name before he undergoes the evolution treatment)?

EARTHBOUND ZERO
Earthbound (Mother 2 in Japan) for the SNES was actually a sequel to a Famicom game (Mother). The original Mother was translated but never produced, and is often referred to as Earthbound Zero. In this game a character asks if you beat Super Mario Bros 7 yet, he's still playing SMB 3. Before it was translated it was Dragon Quest IV he was asking about since he was playing DQIII..
