Rumour - Location of the Cursed Necklace
Game - Dragon Quest I (all versions)
Status - Confirmed

Think you have mastered Dragon Warrior I ? Well some people haven't. The reason is an elusive item that you don't even know about unless you read the explorers handbook, even then it tells you nothing.

I myself took forever looking for it and heard alot of rumors, both from friends and Nintendo's tip line!

The truth is, it's a random treasure... Yes, A random treasure.. In the mountain cave (2nd Basement Floor), collect the treasure in the below map. Normally it is money, but you will notice (if you go back) the amount changes.... Hmm... After a few tries the treasure will be the cursed belt. If you use it, it will do the generic "The cursed necklace is squeezing thy body" blarb and you will have to get it removed.

In the Game Boy and Super Famicom remixes the treasures do not re-spawn... EXCEPT for the one with the cursed necklace in it!

Rumour - Creating multiple soilders can cause the hero to learn magic
Game - Dragon Quest III (NES)
Status - Confirmed

Creating multiple soilders (8) in Dragon Quest III can cause the hero to learn magic spells but also has side-effects, other spells become unable to be learned later on. Use at your own risk I guess.

I discovered this when I was making soilders just so I could sell the leather armor and make fast cash in the beginning, all of a sudden magic happened :)

Rumour - Pary / Fight reduces damage
Game - Dragon Quest III (NES)
Status - Confirmed

All characters (exception of the last one) can select parry then cancel that order and choose fight then the effects of parry (increase defence) AND fight will be executed. Very handy, it's a shame it didn't work on the other Dragon Quest games..

Rumour - A Goof-Off can become a Sage without the book of Satori
Game - Dragon Quest III (all versions)
Status - Confirmed

All characters in Dragon Quest III can become Sages with the book of Satori. Unfortunately there is only one book in the game, meaning only one possible Sage (usually a former Wizard or Pilgrim). A Goof-Off class can become a Sage however at level 20 without the book of Satori. if you can tolerate the class for 20 levels you can reap a second or third sage for your party!

Rumour - Small Medals were supposed to be included in the NES version of DQ III
Game - Dragon Quest III (NES)
Status - Rumour

Through use of a Game Genie, you can obtain 'Small Medals' in the Dragon Warrior III NES version (which were later included for the SNES & GBC versions). The item apparently does nothing since a 'Medal King' was never coded. Unknown why they were not included.

Rumour - You can defeat Keeleon in Chapter IV with high enough stats
Game - Dragon Quest IV (NES)
Status - False

I battled Keeleon at insane levels, with Game Genie codes for HP and for attack power. I had even used a '1 hit kills all monsters' code. Keeleon will die with this code but he immediately re-spawns afterwards and the battle starts over. I recieved 0 exp and 0 gold.

The unbeatable enemies in Dragon Quest V can be defeated but the scene continues as though you lost.

Rumour - You can Obtain the Iron Safe in Chapter V
Game - Dragon Quest IV (NES)
Status - Confirmed

If you complete Chapter III without opening the treasure chest for the Iron Safe you can return later on in Chapter V and the treasure will still be sealed! Open it up and your money will be safe in Chapter V! Chapter III may be tricky without it but it may be worth it in Chapter V (the only chapter that counts at the end). This trick doesn't require any cheating or Secret codes. Very handy...

Rumour - The Gum Pod is a Medical herb
Game - Dragon Quest IV (NES)
Status - False

Before I had Internet, back when I first bought DQ IV my brother and I prided ourselves on being masters of our games (He's a FF fan ). What bothered me the most was that in my favourite chapter from my favourite game existed an item called the Gum Pod that did absolutely nothing. What was this !? I needed to know. I called Nintendo's tip line several times and they continued to tell me it was a medical herb. This is false. In reality it is called 'Uma no Fun" (Horse manure). Basicly 'Dung' from the newer DQ games. It did absolutely nothing in the English version.

Rumour - Run from Necrosaro 7 times and all hits will be critical
Game - Dragon Quest IV (NES)
Status - False

This rumour is full of Gum Pod. I tested this and all that happened was 7 rounds of a beating I took from Necrosaro and afterwards my hits were normal. I forget the origin of this rumour but it is false.

Rumour - Using the Treasure map you can scale walls
Game - Dragon Quest IV (NES)
Status - Confirmed

A very interesting glitch that allows you to see alot of interesting things. In fact it let me scale the wall and talk to Rosa before defeating the SaroKnight. To use it you will need the Treasure Map and this can only be used on large doors (2 tiles high). To exploit this glitch refer to the screenshots and notes below.

Open the doorway and enter the passage withut going into the building
Use the treasure map
When you close the map, you'll notice the door moves up one tile. Open the door and enter the passage as you did in step one.
Continue to do so and tile by tile you can scale a wall!
Notice how Rosa's window is in essence, just a door and it will close and open on her head. Poor girl...
You can accomplish some cool things with this glitch, including talking to Rosa from the outside !
Rumour - Enter the cave east of Endor and you may win 2000 coins
Game - Dragon Quest IV (NES)
Status - True

Entering this cave enough times will randomly trigger an event where the king grants you 2000 coins for the casino. This event occours within the cave so a small walk in the cave is necessary/ The event will 'pop-up' randomly, announcing you a winner.

Rumour - Dragon Quest V was translated
Game - Dragon Quest V (SNES)
Status - Rumour

There is a rumour that some English versions of Dragon Warrior V existed and were shipped to a Canadian distributer. They were never relased due to Enix leaving the North American market. What they did with the copies is unknown. This rumour seems very suspicious and I personally doubt its validity but that didn't stop me from making a fake Dragon Warrior V box. The only english versions of DQ V & VI are made by fans and can be patched onto the Japanese ROM

Rumour - Taloon appears in DQ VI
Game - Dragon Quest VI (SNES)
Status - True

In the Bonus dungeon there lies a village (DeathCod). If you enter it Taloon, Mara and the children of the DQV hero appear. Although the characters didn't look any different from generic DQ VI villagers, they can be found in the village.

Rumour - You can defeat Akubar with enough levels
Game - Dragon Quest VI (SNES)
Status - Rumour

A Rumour has been made that Japanese gamers have defeated the 'unbeatable' version of Akubar. I will test this out and report my findings.
