After upgrading the dated DQ II Enix decided to continue with the upgrade to DQ III
DQ III was quite an amazing game - It introduced a 4 team battle, character classes, sex and naming ability of the characters and graphic updates over the previous versions, but Enix of America managed to still see room for improvement.

Sorry we're late. Cristo needed to find his left shoe...
Well, we've just started. DQ III was the first DQ to have been developped for the Famicom instead of MSX and so the password feature was removed and replaced with a battery backup.

This is why we stuck you in the wagon Cristo and used Nara. Sheesh, your'e a royal chancelor and your shoes are on the wrong feet!
Aw...
Seriously Cristo... Anyway, The intro where Ortega battles the dragon was not in the DQ version. Again the North American version added in a new intro.

Ahem! I think you spelled my name wrong, princess..
No I didn't.
In every DW version on the NES, Enix of America needed to expand the text boxes to allow more characters. This must have been alot of work...

Hey, Alena, - aren't you supposed to be a girl?
Hey! My character IS female. Stupid male-dominated world!
Ha-haha. Serves you right for calling me Criso!
A vampire! Where the heck is my Holy Water!?

Nope, just the casket. The North American version decided to tone it down to ghosts like they did in part II.
Tone it down for Americans!? We're talking about the same "Americans" right?
*Nods* The North Americans
Canadians?
*Sigh*

That's odd, I actually had to select who's item I wanted in the Japanese version even though I'm the only one there... The DW version automatically selected it for me. What an odd minor change...
I also noticed that in the DQ version the item screen is only as long as it is filled, where the DW version always extends to it's full length. Interesting...
What else was censored?

Church and sex.
I can see why they banned the church but why the sex?
Anyway..... A running gag in Dragon Quest are the *Puff-Puff* rooms where the hero pays a girl for sexual behavior.
I thought *Puff-Puff* was a Pokémon! Aw crud! My mom is gonna freak when she sees my Christmas list!!!
