Back in my day all the Dragon Quest games on the MSX had passwords, I guess some lazy programmer didn't bother to change it when it was ported to Famicom...

This looks like a big jump for DQ... At least DQ did some upgrades... DQ Graphics were heavily updated and the stairs and talk commands were either removed or overhauled. Nice work by Enix of Japan!
